Seattle Asian Sports Club Logo  Support SASC

Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Seattle Asian Sports Club. Without the dedicated efforts of volunteers we could not provide the experience for your children. Opportunities to supoort SASC abound as a Volunteer coach, parent coordinator, SASC event volunteer, sponsor, or donor. However you want to support SASC, contact the SASC Board (board@sascsports.org)

Donation and Employer Matching

SASC is a 501(c)3 charitable organization. So any donations are eligible as a tax deduction. Matching donations through work is one way to multiply the impact of your donation. Some organizations and employers also provide matches for their employee's volunteer hours, too.

Volunteer Coaches

SASC is looking for volunteer coaches. Anyone who is interested in helping to coach a SASC team should contact SASC Coach Coordinators, Rod Kawakami or Raymond Huie, or any SASC board member. The quality of the SASC program, to a large extent, depends on the quality of its coaches. You can help us maintain and improve the level of our program by volunteering to coach.

Every year, we find ourselves in need of a sufficient number of coaches for each of our teams. Ideally, we want to have three coaches per team -- a head coach and two assistants. By having at least three coaches per team, we think your child will get the individual attention he or she needs to improve his or her fundamental skills. Currently, our teams average just under two coaches per team.

New volunteer coaches will be required to attend an eight (8) hours coaching development workshop conducted by SASC senior coaches. Most likely, this workshop will be presented in the fall, divided into two four-hour weekend sessions. The topics of such a workshop will include, but not be limited to:

  • SASC organizational philosophy
  • Principles of coaching youth
  • Basic approaches to coaching basketball
  • Pro's and con's of offensive and defensive strategies
  • Fundamental drills
  • Basic plays and sets
  • Practice plans and sequencing
  • Game coaching vs. practice coaching

Coaching youth is a challenging proposition. It is also a very rewarding and gratifying activity. For us at SASC, coaching is and has always been about more than basketball. It's about life and getting young people to be aware of what it takes to prepare oneself for the future, to make good decisions and to be able to self-monitor and self-evaluate. Please volunteer to help us in this endeavor.
